November 20 - World Children's Day

2018-11-20

News  Department

The UN's World Children's Day was established in 1954 and is observed on November 20 each year. The day was established to enhance the cohesion of children around the world, raise children's awareness, and improve children's welfare.

November 20 is an important date. On this day in 1959 and 1989, the UN General Assembly respectively adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Since 1990, World Children's Day has also been the anniversary commemorating the UN General Assembly's adoption of the Declaration and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Parents, teachers, healthcare workers, government leaders, civil society activists, religious groups, community elders, business magnates, media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves, can all play their full part in strengthening World Children's Day and the connections between societies, communities, and nations.

World Children's Day offers every one of us an inspiring entry point to advocate for, promote, and respect children's rights. This day can evolve into dialogue and concrete action to build a better world for children.

2018 Theme: Children Take Over the World, Blue Lights Up the Future

This year, blue will light up the world! We sincerely invite everyone, every school, and every business around the globe to light up children's future together, creating a future in which every child can receive an education, be free from harm, and realize their potential. We know this is the future that the whole world hopes for. Activities to light up children's future include sharing our World Children's Day promotional video, signing the global petition, and using blue on social media to support children's rights.

World Children's Day is approaching; this day belongs to children, and we invite you to take part!
